Alice Louise Ray

BONNE TERRE - Alice Louise (Dixon) Ray, a longtime resident of Farmington was born September 13, 1914, in Crossville, TN, to the late James Allen and Etta (Wyatt) Dixon. She was residing with her son and daughter-in-law in Bonne Terre when she went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2012. She was 97 years, 5 months and 22 days. Alice graduated from the 8th grade at the Hale's Chapel School at Vandiver, TN, an achievement she was very proud of. She wed James Ward Hall Ray on April 5, 1931 in Crossville, TN who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were three children, Frances Hardy, Iris Queen and Eugene Ray; five brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Ray was known for her love of babysitting many children. They loved her fried potatoes, beans and cornbread. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. She raised a 17 pound cabbage head. She also enjoyed ironing for several families. Her sunday school class fellowship was an important aspect of her life. She will be missed by many. Survivors include six children, Leslie Willard Ray of Homosassa FL, David (Linda) Ray of Bonne Terre, Berta (Dan) Barton Drye, Nancy Hall, Janet (Garry) Odle, all of Farmington, and Joy (Tom) Hall of Park Hills. Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren, twenty-three great-great-grandchildren, and honorary grandson, Dylan Vogelsang. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday March 9, 2012 from 5 until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 7 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Three Rivers Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Delassus or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
